How teachers use a rubric
A rubric turns marking from a private judgement into something a child can see coming. Given the grid before they start, children know what a good one looks like — which is most of the battle, and far more useful than a comment written after the work is finished.
It also makes marking faster and more consistent. Thirty pieces judged against the same four criteria take less time than thirty pieces judged from scratch, and a second teacher marking the same set lands in roughly the same place.

Templates, so you are editing rather than starting
A blank grid at half past seven in the morning is not much of a gift. So there are four filled-in starting points — writing, presentation, group work and a science investigation — with criteria and descriptors already written in child-facing language. Load one, change what does not fit your class, and print it.
Every cell is editable, including the column headings. The defaults are Emerging, Developing, Secure and Greater Depth because that is what most English primaries write, but an international school on a different scheme can rename all four in a few seconds. Add or remove rows and columns as you need them.
Printing, points and saving
The print layout is built for a single A4 page: the grid fills the sheet, the site navigation and the supporting text disappear, and the whole thing comes out in black and white so it survives the school photocopier. Your browser’s print dialogue can save it as a PDF instead if you would rather keep it digitally.
Points per level are optional and off by default — plenty of rubrics are better without a score attached. Switch them on and each column carries a value with the maximum total worked out for you.
Whatever you type is saved in your browser as you go, so a half-finished rubric survives a refresh, a closed tab, or a fire drill. It stays on your own device: there is no account and nothing is uploaded.

Can I print the rubric or save it as a PDF?
Yes. The print button lays the grid out as a single A4 page with everything else stripped away. In the print dialogue you can send it to a printer or choose "Save as PDF" as the destination to keep a digital copy.
Can I change the performance levels?
Yes. The four defaults are Emerging, Developing, Secure and Greater Depth, but every heading is editable and you can have anywhere from two to six columns. Rename them to whatever your school uses.
Do I have to start from scratch?
No. There are four ready-made templates — writing, presentation, group work and science investigation — with the criteria and descriptors already written. Load one and edit it, or start from a blank grid if you prefer.
Is my rubric saved anywhere?
